WIPO – World Intellectual Property Organization is a self-funding agency of the United Nations, with 193 member states. It presents awards to outstanding innovators and creators, on the basis of nominations submitted by the national intellectual property offices. The aim is to stimulate Slovenian enterprises to intensify their cooperation with public research organisations. By celebrating the achievements of inventors, creators and innovative companies around the world, the WIPO Awards aim to help foster a culture in which innovation and creativity are encouraged and appreciated at every level of society.

They have a clear intellectual property management strategy and patents in the EU, US, Russia, India, Japan, China and South Korea, which is crucial for B2B business. Their patented modular multiphase technology for advanced in-wheel drive has been presented at numerous international fairs and conferences. The company systematically encourage creativity and innovation among employees and participate in campaigns to promote e-mobility,” stated at the Jozef Stefan Institute.
The evaluation commission consisted of members: Alojz Barlič, Slovenian Intellectual Property Office (SIPO); Matthias Keckl, Fraunhofer Technologie-Transfer Fonds (FTTF) GmbH and Nina Urbanič, Slovene Enterprise Fund.
The award was presented to Simon Mandelj, PhD, CEO of GEM motors by Mag. Karin Žvokelj, Acting Director at Slovenian Intellectual Property Office.
