GEM Motors, a company famous for innovative electric drive technology, has joined forces with French cargo bike manufacturer Kleuster and Renault Trucks to launch the KLEUSTER 350. This state-of-the-art electric-assist cargo bike is specifically designed for professional urban logistics, offering unmatched reliability, efficiency, and sustainability for the last-mile delivery sector. The KLEUSTER 350 production began in Summer 2025, with ambitious volume plans.
Kleuster, a Lyon-based manufacturer established in 2012, specializes in electric-assist cargo bikes specifically designed for professional urban logistics. Partnering with Renault Trucks since 2022, the two companies jointly developed the KLEUSTER 350, a cutting-edge cargo bike engineered for intensive professional use in urban settings.
The KLEUSTER 350 features advanced technical innovations, including a chainless transmission system, electronically controlled crank sets, and front and rear suspensions for optimal rider comfort and stability and high efficient and silent direct in-wheel drives. The cargo bike’s modular and swappable battery design allows a range of up to 35 kilometers, addressing the demands of busy urban delivery professionals.

Meeting the high demands of professional urban logistics
KLEUSTER required a highly efficient, robust, and adaptable motor solution to withstand the rigorous demands of professional urban logistics. Their criteria were clear: exceptional reliability, durability, minimal maintenance, and seamless integration with advanced the chainless e-pedal transmission. The solution needed to eliminate traditional mechanical drivetrains, enhancing vehicle uptime and significantly reducing maintenance costs, all while ensuring compliance with stringent European regulatory standards.
The GEM motors solution: advanced in-wheel drive technology with peak torques
GEM Motors delivered a sophisticated, industrialized in-wheel drive solution (models G1.1 and G1.3), uniquely suited to high KLEUSTER’s requirements. These motors offer outstanding performance with peak torques of 120Nm (G1.1) and 170Nm (G1.3), ideal for handling heavy loads and steep urban gradients. GEM Motors’ integrated motor controllers remove the need for mechanical transmissions, significantly reducing maintenance and enhancing overall reliability.

The solution underwent extensive validation tests, including vibration up to 20g, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), temperature shock, environmental durability, and ingress protection (IP).

Advanced cargo bike developed for urban areas
Improved reliability and enhanced professional efficiency
The implementation of GEM Motors’ advanced solution transformed the KLEUSTER 350 into an industry-leading cargo bike, noted for its reliability and durability. By replacing conventional mechanical systems with electrical controls, the KLEUSTER 350 achieved superior uptime, reduced operational costs, and an elevated riding experience, directly addressing the critical needs of urban logistics professionals.
Finally, KLEUSTER conducted tests on the Transpolis proving ground nearby Lyon, running validation tests in a similar fashion than automotive validation tests. Three KLEUSTER 350 operated day and night for over 40 days to achieve a combined 30’000 kilometers with ambition to proof test its reliability. The tests confirmed that the KLEUSTER 350 and therefore its components fully fulfilled the reliability requirements set by the project.
